Infection Prevention at American Empire Building Services
In the last four decades as a building service contractor in the Bay Area, we have approached our work in professional cleaning as guardians of the public health. Now, with infection prevention on the forefront of society, we are still committed to creating hygienically clean facilities and protecting the health of their occupants.
We provide disinfection services, suitable for cleaning after suspected/confirmed COVID-19 cases. Services include deep cleaning with an electrostatic sprayer and day porters for intermittent disinfection.
Steps we have taken to address the current Coronavirus pandemic:
- We protect our employees with PPE: masks and gloves to wear during routine cleaning.
- We educated our employees about Coronavirus and instructed them to stay home when sick.
- We reinforced employee training on proper cleaning and disinfection practices.
- We acquired top-of-the-line electrostatic sprayer and chemicals that have EPA-approved emerging viral pathogen claims for use against SARS-CoV-2. If there is a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19,(employees wear N95 masks, full coverall suits, booties, hats, and gloves while using the sprayer.)
- We increased the frequency of touch point cleaning and disinfection
Proper Cleaning and Disinfection Practices
At American Empire, we train and reinforce proper cleaning and disinfection practices with our staff. We clean surfaces with an emphasis on removing, according to the CDC’s recommendations for cleaning and disinfection:
Cleaning is the removal of foreign material (e.g., soil, and organic material) from objects and is normally accomplished using water with detergents or enzymatic products. Thorough cleaning is required before high-level disinfection and sterilization because inorganic and organic materials that remain on the surfaces of instruments interfere with the effectiveness of these processes.
We minimize risk of cross contamination by cleaning facilities from top to bottom and from cleaner areas to dirtier areas. We maintain our cleaning equipment to ensure optimum efficacy, and we use chemical cleaners according to the instructions on the product label ensuring the surface remains visibly wet with disinfectant for the recommended dwell time.
Cleaning High Touch Areas
Infectious diseases frequently spread from faces and hands to frequently touched surfaces in a facility. That’s why touchpoint cleaning is a major part of our infection prevention efforts. When infection prevention is a high concern, we respond by cleaning and disinfecting high touch surfaces more frequently, helping prevent the spread of disease.

Electrostatic Sprayer: Clorox Total 360 System
Recently, we invested in an electrostatic sprayer to improve surface coverage while killing 99.9% of bacteria in 5 seconds. Our new Clorox Total 360 System kills cold and flu viruses, MRSA, norovirus, and the novel Coronavirus that causes COVID-19. This system helps us clean and disinfect to the highest standard, assuring a safer, healthier environment for building occupants.
How an Electrostatic Sprayer Works
By charging cleaning solutions as they pass through the nozzle, electrostatic sprayers generate charged droplets of , disinfectant, that uniformly coat carpet, fabric, and hard surfaces. The result is unprecedented coverage of surfaces that were previously challenging to disinfect, like upholstery, drapery, chairs, and hard-to-reach surfaces.
We urge our employees, clients, and members of our community to exercise caution during the Coronavirus pandemic. We promote adherence to recommended handwashing guidelines, and other common-sense infection prevention strategies. Here are a few resources to help:
